Last night we celebrated my god-daughters 21st Birthday. She was born into this world at 4 lb. 4 oz. I remember the first time I saw her. I was just 15 years old and she was so tiny! Over the years she spent a lot […]
Month: November 2017
It’s about a 20-minute drive to two local casinos from where we live. Very dangerous. Especially dangerous when you have comp rooms every week. I mean I’d be crazy not to use them…they are free right? And it’s a great excuse to escape the family.
My husband and I started going to Atlantic City in New Jersey a few months ago just for a change of scenery once a month. Harrah’s was our spot ever since my parents starting taking us years and years ago. My Parents both had their pilot’s license and it was nothing to hop on their plane and take off for the day. We didn’t know how lucky we were back then, now we drive 3 hours.
I recently got a good package deal for the Borgata in Atlantic City. We never stayed there so of course, we didn’t ever have any room offers. Well, needless to say…after this trip, we have offers for suites. We did not come home winners.
We decided to leave early on Sunday morning and made it there by 11:30 am We used valet for $5, which I considered reasonable and very convenient. Located in the Marina area, the Borgata a beautiful hotel which opened its doors in July 2003. I want to mention this is not a boardwalk hotel. For $2 you can take the Jitney to the boardwalk or just about anywhere in Atlantic City. Check-in was surprisingly quick. There was a decent line but it moved quickly. Our package included our room, passes to the spa facilities, a comedy show and a $50 food credit, all for $99. The front desk staff was friendly and made sure to go over everything in our package before we were off to our room on the 39th floor.
I will say that it takes a lot to impress me and I was really impressed with the room. Everything was super clean and very modern. I couldn’t say anything bad about the room. The bed was very comfortable and there were wonderful bath products too. We booked a Classic King which is the standard room. It was everything we needed and more, I’m excited to explore and share the other room options available though.
We dropped off our bags and decided to hit the casino. We stopped to sign up for our player’s cards and we were each given $25 free play for a sign-up promotion.
There were so many people in the casino, it was difficult to get on a machine. People were actually standing in lines behind others waiting. It was insane. The whole resort was so hot, I don’t know if it was the number of people there but it was steaming.
After a few hours of gambling, sweating and absolutely no luck getting a drink from a cocktail waitress, we headed back to the room to relax before we had to get ready for our dinner reservation at Bobby Flay Steak.
We arrived on time for our dinner reservation and we were quickly taken to our table right near the kitchen where the servers are constantly coming in and out of. I must have my name on a restaurant list that says “Always seat this lady either near the restrooms or the kitchen” I swear it happens everywhere. My husband asked if we could be moved and after a few minutes, we had a perfect table.
Service was slow at first. It took awhile to get our drinks and we were actually contemplating getting up and leaving. I’m so glad we didn’t.
My husband ordered the Spicy Southwest Ribeye, I ordered the Shrimp Scampi, and we shared the Creamed Spinach and the Smashed Baked Potato with Crème Fraiche, Goat Cheese, and Herbs. Everything was absolutely amazing.
My Shrimp Scampi came with three giant shrimp on green chile risotto. My husband is a huge risotto fan and he loved my entrée as well. These shrimp were so big, like a mini lobster tail. I only ate two of them and tonight as I’m writing this I’m still angry that I took the one to go and left it in the hotel refrigerator.
The Ribeye was cooked to perfection at medium rare, of course, I had to steal a bite…it was the most flavorful and probably the best ribeye I’ve ever had. Oh, and those smashed potatoes, To. Die. For.
We will definitely dine at Bobby Flay Steak again!
We ended up not going to the comedy show, so I can’t review that. The reason we didn’t go was that the venue was movie theater seating and looked worse than a movie theater. I created a monster with my husband, he learned to be a snob from the best and once he saw that he was out. For a beautiful casino resort, I expected a nice show lounge similar to lounges on cruises.
Before going back to the room we gambled a little more. It was a great little getaway but I’m still waiting for my first hand pay at a casino. No such luck. I would definitely go back again, and especially now since we have comp room offers.
